Website Relevance

Relevance is one of the most important basics in the SEO world. Search engines, like google, track user clicks with extremely advanced algorithms. For example, if John Smith clicks on a link he is lead to believe contains information about World Economics but the destination contains information on World Politics, users will simply click back or close the session quite quickly. This sends detailed data to the relevant search engine, and in this example it is google, google then in a way “punishes” or lowers the rank of the query and also the websites standing on google.

Website Performance

Website performance can work in similar ways to relevance. In that, if a user experiences a slow to load page, malfunctioning page, or even partially loads text and half of an image most users will refresh or move onto the next website. Giving you a similar punishment from the search engine that an irrelevant link would produce. Website performance is quite a broad topic but a healthy and performing website is responsive, loads quickly, is secure and talks to other servers and the outside world quite well. In a simple form, why would a search engine promote your website or a user want to continue using your website if it is slow and causing usability problems?

Back Linking

Back linking is crucial to your websites credibility of information. Simply put, if a service or another separate website were to link an article, resource or simply anything from your website, search engines would see this as an external source agreeing/supporting the linked content. In the eyes of a search engine, they see this as a potential to provide more relevant, accurate and credible information to the users on their search engine.

Keyword Mapping

Keyword mapping is essentially ensuring your targeted keywords end up with the correct destination. For example, if I were to google “Women’s National Rugby League”, but the link sent me to the “Men’s National Rugby League” on the same website, this would be evidence of no Keyword Mapping or very poor Keyword Mapping.

HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. In a basic form, if a website is HTTPS it’s flow of information will be sent and filtered through an encrypted & secure information protocol. Any website wanting to be taken seriously by a human user, and especially a search engine should be using HTTPS but also a correctly configured one. A website should be scanned and checked to ensure all content within the site is HTTPS as well. We’ve seen less reputable SEO companies forget these basic principles/tasks basically rendering their website vulnerable and creating a big hole in the websites credibility.

Mobile Device Friendly

It’s 2022, almost 16 billion mobile phones are operating at any given time around the world. A pretty impressive number when you consider there is only an estimated 2.5 Billion personal computers currently used around the world. So with those numbers, why wouldn’t your website be mobile friendly? Why wouldn’t we optimize performance for a mobile friendly version as well? We often come across far too many websites that are not mobile friendly or optimized for mobile devices. It simply drives people away for lack of convenience and ease of use thus pushing your websites credibility and rank down overall, for all devices and users.

Indexing is essentially your overall “rank”, “score” or position on a search engine. A search engine will essentially test/scan (index) your website from top to bottom using all 10 of these top 10 articles and the some. Ranging from keywords to file integrity and performance, it all gets indexed by a search engine and scored. The better your indexing score, the more relevant and higher on a search engine you will appear.

Identify & Fix Broken Links

This is something we see all too often, less reputable or home-users upgrading or performing changes to their websites without running a quality process assessment on the changes, pages and any linked or relevant pages. A broken link will most certainly have a search engine, especially google, punish your indexing score if a link is clicked but it goes no where. A common error code is “404 Not Found” or “500 Internal Server Error” which is frowned upon in the SEO world. Having your SEO specialist identify the cause of your broken link and repairing it is highly recommended. Simply put, if google punishes you for misleading your website visitors, how harshly do you thin you will be punished if you lead them to a broken link or website?

Optimizing Images for SEO

Optimizing your images for SEO is crucial to your websites performance but also the meta quality behind it. If you have a page full of largely sized images your website visitor will sit and wait much longer for the content to appear, especially if they are on a slower connection. It is imperative to ensure your image are of a high quality but the smallest possible physical size possible. Search engines will punish you for slow load time on a website which in turn will bring your credibility on the web down quite a bit. Correctly labeling and tagging your images is equally as important as well. When you google a “Red Fire Truck”, how does google know to display a red firetruck? By having your picture correctly labelled and meta tags set correctly, that’s how.

Now that you know a few VERY basic ins and outs of the above, why not find your competitors that are struggling in these errors and simply excel at those very things on your website. You are bound to shoot past them with a superior indexing score and thus putting you higher on the search results when a visitor looks for you!
